Woolgate Farm is primarily run by me, Amy. I started out in the farming world with goats and raised them for many years. I currently only have two goats and sometimes when I walk into the barn, I still expect to see and hear a lot more of them! Many years ago I stumbled onto a picture of a Swiss Valais Blacknose sheep. The cute face and the shaggy wool snagged my attention right away and I was smitten. When I did more research and discovered that the Valais could not be imported into the United States, I was so disappointed. I continued to raise goats, have some chickens, and grow a few pigs in the meantime until one day, I remembered those adorable sheep and did another search on their status. I was delighted to find out that purebred Valais semen could be imported into the US now and people were beginning to participate in a Valais breed up program. After a lot of thought and prayer, I decided to take the plunge and enter the sheep world! I purchased some purebred Romney sheep to use as my foundation ewes, I found someone that sold the purebred Valais semen and I found a young F1 ewe that was for sale. My Valais venture had begun! That was in the summer of 2019 and the adventure has continued ever since!
